Bull Falls Homebrewers Club History

Although North Central Wisconsin and the Wausau area have a long brewing heritage, the Bull Falls Homebrewers are relative newcomers to the brewing scene.

In February 1995 microbiologist Terese Barta taught a Science of Brewing Malt Beverages course through UW-Marathon County. After the course had been completed, Ms. Barta formed a club so that her students could continue the craft of homebrewing. That club was the genesis of the current Bull Falls Brewers.

Frogs        Original club member Bob Beck recalls the first meeting in March 1995, where roughly 15 people attended, all eager to learn more about their new hobby. Over the years the club has met in many locations throughout the Wausau area. First, in members homes. Then at the Center for Visual Arts, where club members performed volunteer work for the Center. Finally, in 2007 the club meet on the second Thursday of every month and alternates between the local breweries, brewpubs and bars in the Central Wisconsin Area.  Meetings are posted on Facebook and Twitter.

The club continues to grow with homebrewers of all skill levels – from novices brewing their first beers from extract kits, to advanced all grain brewers with full scale brewing systems. We make Mead's, Ciders, Wines and of course Beers, Ales and Lagers of every kind.  All are welcome.

As the club continues to grow, look for additional club events to be featured. The Bull Falls Homebrewers Annual Homebrew Competition called "The Golden Growler", drawing entries from homebrewers throughout Central Wisconsin with judging by professional brewers from local breweries and brewpubs.
