Reformed Brewers Fellowship

While I drink my little glass of Wittenberg beer, the Gospel runs its course and overthrows empires.

Martin Luther (10 November 1483 – 18 February 1546)

The Reformed Brewers Fellowship officially formed in December 2010, though its exact origins are debated by many.  A collection of brewing aficionados, homebrew rookies, and beer enthusiasts, the RBF exists for the enjoyment of beer and the development of new and exciting recipes to please the palate. The club brews at least once per month, though many members brew in smaller amounts more regularly. Brewing occurs in the Crieve Hall Neighborhood of Nashville, focuses on high-quality, all-grain brewing, and is accompanied by discussions ranging from church history to the glory days of 80's hair metal bands. Many of the group are also found frequenting brewpubs and taprooms in the area.  This accomplishes what Luther was fond of saying:

"Whenever the devil pesters you, at once seek out the company of friends, drink more, joke and jest, or engage in some form of merriment."

On Tap

December 31, 2010 - New Year's Eve

Today the group finished out 2010 in style. An ambitious brewing goal was set - 30 gallons - which turned out to be a relative walk in the park. One IPA, a smoked pale ale, an American red ale, and a hefeweizen later, the RBF IPA challenge commenced. The group tasted 6 single hopped IPA's - Chinook, Cascade, Centennial, Columbus, Amarillo, and Simcoe.  As it turns out, sometimes you can have too many hops, since by the end no one could tell them apart. The cumulative IBU's consumed was staggering, with the ABV's not far off.  All in all, it was a great way to finish out the year.
