MAINE ALE & LIBATION TASTERS (MALT)

MALT is a group that generally gathers on the last Thursday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30PM at local Homebrew Shops and members homes to talk about our favorite hobby... brewing and drinking beer.  Generally, meetings start by covering club business and planning events and bulk purchases of supplies/equipment and brew sessions.

Socializing is a great opportunity to get some feedback on your beers.  However, please let people know if you're looking for constructive criticism or just offering some beer.  Although we're more than happy to help, nobody wants to offend someone who was just looking to share the wealth.

Do you have to bring homebrew or other beer to a meeting?  Absolutely not!  Maybe you haven't had time to brew in awhile or you feel your latest creation isn't up to par, no big deal.  Please remember we are BYOB and it's always better to give than to receive.

Extracurricular Activities

We are always trying to plan other fun activities

    • American Homebrewers Association Events:  We support three American Homebrewers Association events each year and are always looking for more of our members to come out and help for National Homebrew Day (Big Brew), Mead Day, and Learn to Homebrew Day.  These events are usually held at one of our members homes and are a great opportunity to help out and learn.
    • Homebrew Competitions:  One of the best ways to achieve brewing fame and notoriety is to do well in local homebrew competitions.  The club participates in AHA club-only competitions where you can enter your beer to our club for first round judging and the winner continues on to the national judging round to compete against clubs from around the country.  There are also numerous other homebrew competitions throughout the year and most offer incredible prizes for the winners. The Calendar on our website is a great place to check out upcoming events.
    • Beer Judge Certification Program:  During club meetings we will periodically hold BJCP classes where you can learn to be a beer judge.  We are trying to gauge interest and gather more members to register for a BJCP exam site.
